The Phenomenal, Sassy, and Sensational Sigma Zeta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, was chartered as the ninth graduate chapter of the sorority in the state of New Jersey on Saturday, April 28, 2001, at 9:15 a.m. The chapter was established under the leadership of International Grand President Dr. Barbara West Carpenter, Atlantic Regional Director Barbara A. Henderson, New Jersey State Director Pauline E. Gibson, and the chapter’s first President, Stacey Love. Sigma Zeta Zeta Chapter proudly serves as the sponsoring graduate chapter for the Upsilon Tau Chapter at New Jersey City University and Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, NJ. Upsilon Tau was chartered in 2011. Additionally, Sigma Zeta Zeta sponsors the Zeta Amicae of Jersey City, an auxiliary chartered in 2012 to advance the mission of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, among women who have not earned a bachelor’s degree. The chapter also supports several youth auxiliaries, including the Archonettes—a group of young women ages 14–18 committed to scholarship, sisterhood, and community service.
Since its charter, Sigma Zeta Zeta has consistently upheld and promoted the founding principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood throughout Hudson County. Our very first community service event was at Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen in Jersey City, NJ, in 2001.
Sigma Zeta Zeta Chapter History
On April 28, 2026, Sigma Zeta Zeta will proudly celebrate its 25th Charter Anniversary under the leadership of charter member Soror Regina Simmons. From its humble beginnings with 10 members, the chapter has grown to a thriving sisterhood of over 60 women. As we enter our 25th year, we remain a beacon of empowerment, unity, and excellence—uplifting communities, creating educational opportunities, and strengthening the bonds of sisterhood. Over the past quarter-century, Sigma Zeta Zeta has worked tirelessly to provide mentorship, advocate for social change, and serve those in need. We honor our rich legacy while paving the way for future generations of Zeta women to carry forward our timeless principles with pride, purpose, and passion.
