The History of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated

​

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The five illustrious founders of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, and Fannie Pettie Watts envisioned a sorority that would raise people’s consciousness, effect positive change, foster sisterhood, encourage the highest standards of scholarship through scientific, literary, cultural and educational programs; promote volunteerism on college campuses and in the community; and exemplify Finer Womanhood. These ideals are reflected in the sorority’s national programs for which it's members and auxiliary groups provide significant volunteer service, youth mentoring, community outreach programs, scholarship funds, charity support, and social and civic change in legislation.
